Free pom pom apron sewing pattern!

You will need:
- Cotton webbing, 2.5m (2½yrd)
- Quilting cotton for the apron, 1m (1yrd)
- Quilting cotton for the pocket, 40cm (15¾”)
- Pom pom trim, 80cm (31½”)
- Pattern paper
- Pencil

Pom pom apron sewing pattern
Step 1
Start by making a pattern for your apron. Using your pattern paper and a pencil, mark out 15cm (6″) across the top, then 81cm (317/8″) down and 31cm (12¼”) across the bottom.
Draw up 51cm (201/8″) on the other side, then connect your top line and shorter side line by drawing a straight diagonal line between them both.
Step 2
Pin the pattern onto your main fabric with the long centre line on the fold, making sure the grainline is running down the fabric. Cut out one piece. Cut out one 26 x 36cm (10¼ x 141/8″) rectangle from your chosen pocket fabric.
Step 3
Fold in all edges by 1.5cm (5/8″), then 1.5cm (5/8″) again. Iron and pin down. Where two hems overlap, fold in the one on top to create a triangle. This will keep the edges looking neat and make sure they don’t peek over. Stitch around.

Step 4
Fold over, iron and pin 1.5cm (5/8″) twice around all sides of your pocket rectangle. Stitch down along one long edge. This will be the top of your pocket.
Place your pocket in the centre of your apron with the bottom edge 15cm (6″) from the bottom of the apron. Pin in place, then topstitch around the bottom and two sides. Stitch one line up the centre of your pocket.
Step 5
Cut one piece of webbing to 63cm (247/8″) for the neck. Fold over each end of the webbing by 1cm (3/8″), then again by 1.5cm (5/8″).
Pin at each end of the neckline on the wrong side (WS), overlapping the edge by 1.5cm (5/8″). Stitch into place with two lines parallel to the top of the apron.
Step 6
Cut two pieces of webbing to 90cm (35¼”) for the waist straps.
On both pieces, fold over one end by 1cm (3/8″) then again by 1.5cm (5/8″), then stitch down with two parallel lines.
Fold over both of the other ends of the webbing by 1cm (3/8″), then again by 1.5cm (5/8″).
Pin one onto each side of the waist. They should overlap the edge by 1.5cm (5/8″). Stitch into place with two lines parallel to the side of the apron.
Step 7
Pin your pom pom trim along the bottom of your apron. The tape should be on the back of the apron, and the pom poms should dangle over the edge.
At the two ends, you may want to cut the tape a little longer to fold it underneath itself and keep the edges looking neat. Stitch in place. Give the garment a press, and you’re done.
